strapped for cash and driving a SHO. That sounds kind of scary. Actually, it is a very good car but, it needs a little looking after. If you want bulletproof low cost, low maintenance get an old corolla.

One other thing. I suspect that a lot of the complaints I hear on this board about how their sho's are putting them in the poor house come from 19 year old guys who hit the rev limiter on every shift. 20 years ago I was that guy. So, if you want your SHO to be good to you and not make you even more cash strapped, read everything on this board and pay particular attention to sdpatt. He has about 6 light years on his 91 most of which pulling a 43 ft sailboat. OK, I exaggerate a little.

I just bought one from The Shoshop. It cost me $219. It's a factory ford replacement. I think you can get a cheap rebuilt for around $185 or less.

You can also get the A1 Cardone 57-1373 remanufactured pump for around $60 at local auto supply stores (O’Reilly). This allows easy return of the old pump case for refund of the core charge and usually comes with a lifetime warranty. The reman unit is the front case half with case the mating gasket and replaces the seals and bearings and refinishes the casing to look brand new. This portion of the pump contains all of the moving and wearable parts. There is absolutely no reason to replace the rear case half because it consists only of machined aluminum.

hey pete c

All I wanted to know was how much a water pump cost. Not to be rude or anything, but do you think that all of us 19 year olds are the same?? It just so happens this is the first problem I have had with this car.

sorry I thought it needed to be said

why so sensitive balls? I tried giving a little advice along with a bit of humor. Well, actually I gave the advice on your other thread where you asked the same question. Sorry for my off point rambling, but, I'm working third shift now and it's the sleep deprivation talking. Good luck with your wp troubles. And also, I think sdpatt already mentioned this, but, don't take the waterpump mount off. It just invites further leaks when everything goes back together.

Oh, yeah, almost forgot, yes, for the most part, when it comes to driving, all 19 year olds are pretty much the same. ****, I'm 39 and I still like to drive like a 19 year old. I just try not to do it all the time.

I just installed the the $60 rebuilt pump (exchange)all works fine. The $218 "pump" is both the pump and the housing. The housing rarely needs replacing but the housing's 2 "O" rings and the inlet pipe gasket usually need replacing.

Act fast the "O" rings and gasket are no longer supported by Ford.

If you are taking the pump housing off (which means the timing belt is removed), remove the timing belt gear and check the front crank oil seal for leaks.

You can still get the Fel-Pro ES70425 water pump gasket set from RockAuto.com for $5.32 or many autoparts stores for about the same. The set in cludes the two O-rings and the inlet and case gaskets. You won't need the case gasket since the reman units come with one and there is absolutely no need to take the inlet tube apart to replace the other gasket. The O-rings are a safe bet to replace though.

sdpatt is correct I poorly chose the word usually when referring to the inlet pie gasket. That gasket rarely leaks, but while it comes in the kit and only takes a few additional minutes while you have the housing removed from the engine, I vote go ahead and replace the gasket anyway.
