Hello all,
I am currently about to buy a 91 SHO MTX with 75,*** on the clock. It is in amazing shape and I am picking it up for $3700. First off, is this a good deal? Like I said, it is in immaculate condition and the owner just had the 60,000 mile service completed.

The only thing is that the mechanic at the dealership told him that his clutch cable was stretched and it needed a new one. How hard is this to fix? I have read the write up on SHOtimes and some other places but I would like some peoples opinions about how hard it really is. I am pretty mechanically inclined so I am not that worried about it but I am also having a hard time finding a new cable. Is there a quality one out there that you have replaced yours with? Sorry about asking all the newby questions but I am in fact a newby to these machines. Thanks in advance!

Kris

That does sounds like a good find. Visit shotimes.com for more information on items to look out for. Stretched clutch cable? At 75,000 miles? I doubt it. It probably just need to be adjusted by pulling upwards (opposite direction of pushing) on the clutch pedal with about 10 pounds of force. The cable on my car is original and has been pushed more times than most all of the other SHO clutch cables and it has not stretched. The construction of the cable would have it break before it elongated. If you have any specific questions, this is a good place to come back for answers.

Make sure that it's not 175k miles since there are only 5 digits on the odometer. Since you say it's in very good condition, it does sound like it's a 75k mile car. Take some pics of it when you get it, everyone here like to see a nice low milage SHO. And BTW it's an MTX not an ATX (that's an automatic) :thumb: .

If you really want to crawl around down there you could always look into switching over to the rod shifter that began sometime in '91(?).
