I got some SS STB's but don't know how to install them. A quick rundown or better, a long step-by-step would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

3 nuts on each strut tower - undo them, put your bar on, put the nuts back on, tighten it up mildly. You will affect the geometry of the wheels if you over-adjust the bar. Other than that, I'm curious myself - I just did mine.

Front - easy
Rear - Major back cramps. Mine, a socket didn't fit - I had to use a closed-end 12-point wrench & turn one point at a time...

Hey Fred, I think that's what a crows foot is for....We never have those thinking they're worthless, maybe they aren't!

Fred, when you installed your's, did you pre-load them in slight compression or tension?

When I installed mine, I think I pre-loaded them in compression, which if I am not mistaken is a bias to push the top of the two strut towers slightly apart. Correct? Not sure how Eric at Rickety Engineering re-installed them after he did all the suspension upgrade work.

Yes, installing the rear bar was a PIA. I had to actually crawl into the trunk to do the work. Hey, but aleast the neighbors thought it was funny.

I tightened mine outward at the top about 1 turn to make sure it was snug. To be perfectly honest, I was hoping to have them at the last autocross to ask about how they should be setup - like maybe at an alignment shop or something. Don't know too much, but that's what I did.

The correct preload on the brace would be in tension - pulling the towers together. Compression will push the towers outward which is the same thing that cornering force will do to the outboard strut tower without a brace. I had written a long (surprised?) post on a similar topic and gave the physics behind my answer.

So how would you get a car into non-compression? Jack it up and tighten the STB's?
