Traction. I just completed a 3.2 swap with stage II cams, and I have no traction in 1st gear > 5k RPM, or half way through a sprited shift into seccond. How do you guys making real power get it down?

I will soon be installing SFC's. Add to what I already have (Quaife, Alum SFBs, SHO-Strong ultra-inforced MMs), maybe they and a good set of tires will help?

No wonder there are hardly and SHOs in the 12's.

Refuse to race from anything less than a 60mph roll...lol! Seriously though, about the only thing you can do is get some real sticky tires like Goodyear F1 GS D3 or Bridgestone SO2 or SO3. Drag radials or slicks will get you hooked up at the track but your clutch, motor mounts, axles, etc better be up to the task. I have some Nitto drag radials and it's unbelievable how hard they hook up one you do a small burnout with them. Just ask my left axle! :thumb:

GS-d3's right here babby! I love them!! I have yet been able to break these tires loose! But you do pay a pretty penny for them! I got mine from discount tire and i knew a local sho owner who worked there. So He helped me out on the price a little.. But not much But they are awesome tires though man!! :hail:

Traction, what is that? Seriously, were I to get any traction in 1st and 2nd at the track I would be deep into the 12's. My best 60' with the turbo does not come close to me best 60' with my heavier open diff'd 95.

Yep the D3's are awesome. I've only driven maybe 50 miles on mine but I could tell the difference right away. My old Comp T/A's had real trouble hooking up in first gear. I could lay rubber without even flooring it. But now it just rockets forward with no slippage at all.

I'm sure they still won't compare to the nitto's at the track, those things turned to super glue once you heated them up! It was funny because the rubber would be so soft that they'd pick up all the gravel on the pit road...lol.

wow, the 3.2 conversion must really increase power! That is amazing. I wonder what kind of torque and horsepower you are now putting out?

Well I am running the stage II cams too which make a difference. I am hoping ~235 - 240 HP and ~205 - 215 on the TQ. I should have some dyno #'s in about a month or so... after I figure out my fuel pump issues.

Hey, I met you at NYIRP a couple months back. Glad to hear you got your car all together. I just put in my 3rd tranny yesturday... I'm getting pretty good, can swap trannies in a couple hours, haha. Anyways, when you find a tire that hooks let me know!! And we should meet up sometime, I'd like to check out your car.

What type, size, condition are your tires? I could not go WOT in 1st gear in my 3.2 '90 either with my worn out, hard as a rock Dunlop SP8000 tires (225/55-16). The tires would just spin. Sure made it seem powerful, but a new set of Kumhos solved that. Now there's plenty of traction.

Sounds good. Glad to hear you got your tranny done. Hope this one holds up a lil better. ;)

I need tires bad. Running old G force TA KDWs that are bald now. Need some $$ first. Broke as ****, gotta pay ins and rent first. Slow job and working for free (training) ownes me.

I plan on getting to NYIRP as soon as I get tires and an alignment... someday :/

I hear the BFGoodrich KD's and KDW's are REAL good, decent price too, and a good all around cheap tire is the Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 712.

Mine got better when I installed the coilovers (500/350 spring rates), then got worse again when I set up my 'track' camber settings (-1.8 front, -2.3 rear). I'm running GS-D3s in 225/55 on 16x7.5" wheels and in a straight line they usually will stay (just barely) attached to the road.

The subframe connectors theoretically should make some difference. Good tires make a big difference, and stiffer springs help as well (less squat). Old tires get dried out and don't work so well -- my old Victoracer V700s were spinning most of the way through first the time-before-last at the track and had horrible grip sideways to boot. I got some Formula V and used that on them and that made a huge difference at the last event, but I don't know that I'd bother on street tires (especially since you stated they were bald).
