Lets just say i had an accident and I now my wheel stubs are messed up on one wheel. The rotor is gonna be replaced so thats gonna be off. I know I basically just bang the old ones off but how do i get the new ones in?

Thanks Dan

Yes, you can drive the old ones out with a mallet or a punch, some sort of BFH to provide adequate encouragement for them. You'll see that you can rotate the hub and that there are certain places where there is more clearance than others to remove or replace the studs from the back.

Rotate the hub so that you can insert the new stud as far as possible. Place a stack of washers on the stud and use either a flat lug nut (available at most auto stores) or a lug nut put on backwards and draw the stud in by turning the nut until it is pulled _all_ the way into the hub. A little oil on the threads usually helps.

If you use the conical part of a stock lug nut to pull the stud in you'll likely deform the bottom of the lug. If you have an extra one to sacrifice this isn't a big deal, or use a flat one.

I've got a rounded bottom lugnut I use specifically for this, as I've had to do it several times now on the SVT :bonk:

This couldn't be easier, even in the rust belt. Use an impact and it will be a breeze. Just watch out for the hub teeth rounding off, which happened to me on the SVT as well. Sometimes I really hate that damn car.

Changing the studs is far, far easier than swapping the knuckle. You may have other reasons for swapping the knuckle, but if you just need the studs replaced that's not that hard.

Seemed to me the knuckle wasn't that hard - except for the ABS sensor that sort of got destroyed...

my car doesnt have ABS but the one I'm taking the hub from does should this matter? Also all i have to do is that off that center bolt and it should come off right?

i noticed that several smaller whacks on a stud deformed it less than one large hit, perhaps thats common sence but i thought id share anyway. i knwo ur problem is solved for for future reference ur supposed to tighten the lug to pull he stud into place then unscrew and then tighten again, to make sure everything has seated properly.
