It's easiest if you remove the intake to replace the plugs though it is possible to do it with a couple of swivels. To remove the wires just grab it at the top of the boot and pull. Inserting a screwdriver under the lip will help to persuade it to come off as well.

Beware of breaking your spark plug wires. The metal clip that connects to the spark plug like to come out. My fancy spancy motorcraft spark plug wires do that...on every signal one...

I didn't have to remove the intake - I just moved some of those hoses to the side and pulled the black canister off of the intake (just snaps into place IIRC.) Then I was able to use 2 extensions with a universal between them to remove the plugs. 20min, not difficult.

Yea, it looks hard, but but its really easy with the right length extensions. Use one just long enough to drop into the plug well and be flush with the valve cover, put the swivel there, and then another extension on that. Use some needle-nose pliers to get the plugs out if they dont come w/ the socket. save yourself a headache and leave the intake on.

Exactly, its not all that hard, especially if you climb up and sit on your motor so you can see down in the plug wells, i think i did my rear bank in like 20 minutes. :thumb:

hmm, a noob like me can get my intake off in less than 40 minutes. And from there on it's a real peice of cake. Infact, i'm betting I could get my intake off even faster now (i've done it a few times).

I'm not really mechanically inclined at all. Things that take more experienced people usually take me about 3 times as long

But hey, if you've never removed your intake before, now could be a good time to clean it out, check the condition of the valve cover and plug well seals, inspect the cam gear chains...whatever.

It's never a bad idea to clean your intake and TB, and it's relatively simple to get the thing off.

I'd remove the intake. It's easier that way. It also helps to have a super-extended length sparkplug sockets. Do a search for an old post of mine where I tell the exact part number to give to the counter guy at NAPA, and the price. It was well under $10 at the time IIRC. A shorter sparkplug socket on an extension is no substitute. Shoot, it can come off the extension and give you some **** and your neighbors many ears full o' cussing. Plus the typical short sockets are really fat in comparison. I love that socket I got. It makes changing SHO plugs a pleasure.

Just remove the black plastic lid off of the firewall. Then you can easily get the plugs with just an extension.
