Occasionally The RR wheel gets hot enought that I can not touch it after I have been driving for awhile. It does not do it all the time, just randomly. Is this a sign of a bad caliper? I do not use my e-brake, so i think that's ruled out. Thanks, Will

Did you feel the other rear brake as well and determine that one is deffinitely hotter than the other? If not, it could just be how you are braking during a specific instance.

You have at least one one of the following:

Frozen slider pin(s)
Bad capliper
E-brake cable
or
Brake line hose

By now, you will also probably need new pads and a rotor to correct the problems caused by the original failure.

Good luck,

Steve

All of the other wheels are much cooler than that one. What does a bad brake line look like? Will it be visibly larger or something? Also, there is still plenty of pad left, as this problem only occurs sometimes, but not very often. It just bugs me. Also, can i just disconnect the e-brake cable if that is the problem? Thanks, Will

The hydraulic brake lines can swell on the inside, particularly inside the steel clamp on the strut. Can't see it. The result is the master cylinder can force fluid to the caliper to apply the brakes, but the fluid is then not able to go back into the line when the brakes are released. That wheels brake stays applied, and gets real hot.

I would add proportional valve to that list
Agreed. I recently had calipers, rotors, pads and hoses replaced on both of my rear brakes, and subsequently changed my e-brake cables, but I've still got a "hot" rear right. The rear bias valve is coming out this weekend.

I have had some of the same problems with brakes sticking it seems to happen when the temperature is hotter. Could some one tell me where and how to replace the proportioning valve and rear bias valve. I have a chiltons manual. I have replaced everything else hoses, rotors, calipers, ebrake, pads. My brake pedal sticks and i have to pull it up manually.

compare the ebrake lever/cam on the side thats getting hot to the other side (to make sure it is in the fully released position)
This happened to me about a year ago. My rear passenger wheel was VERY hot. I took it to a local garage because I needed it fixed asap. They told me the calipers were sticking. $250 and about a week later I noticed the ebrake was sticking (which he never mentioned squint )The drivers side did not stick... only the pass. side.
