So, I am currently driving a 99 CRV, flame away, and the horn sucks to high ****. You push it and it sounds like you are stepping on a duck barbershop quartet. Despite this, I am curious if the extra horn I have from a 99 Taurus would be plug and play. Does any one here know the voltage/amperage of the stock Taurus horn? I have been told that I have up to 8amps to play with for the horns. There are two on the CRV 1 high 1 low.

Thanks,

Should be compatible. SHO has Hi & low as well. Horns are 12V and fused on a 15 amp circuit. If you want to know the exact apm draw of the horn you will need to take an ohm reading and do the math (however if you ohm test both horns and they are close to the same than they would have similar amp draw).

I have the new horns on the CR-V and I cannot tell you how relieved I am to know that now when I push the horn to alert someone they will actually hear me.

Thanks again.

So did you just cut the wiring and splice it into the CRV's harness?

Sort of.

The CRV uses a two wire application instead of the Ford's one wire.
I initially used the connector from the Honda horn, I cut it off and then drilled two tiny holes into the connector and placed wire into them and then epoxied them in place. That way removal would be a cinch. It worked for one but the other kept getting pulled out.

So I just use some tube electrical connectors, the cylindrical version of the spade connectors. They are completely covered.

I did that for the grounds only in while the end of the wire that connected to the horn I crimped a U shaped connector on and slid it around the bolt that the bracket bolts to. I used a spade connector for the + and slid it onto the stock location.

So, I blew a couple of fuses before I realized that it was shorting out on the body. I ended up using liquid electrical tape around the bracket and then electrical taped the mounting tab and the liquid electrical tape. When I have time to actually pull off the bumper, (i worked through the bumper this time) I am going to use the rubberized spray and spray the bracket so that it does not allow the horns to ground.

I’ll try and post some pictures tonight.
