my Sunday project was painting the the hood on my 1994 ATX that has a hood scoop. I painted the underside of the hood with a sound-deadening undercoat and painted the hood scoop and a part of the hood semi-gloss black. I was going for the new Charger R/T look, minus the lettering.

in your opinion...

1. "looks OK, keep it."
2. "paint the entire hood flat back."
3. "you just can't save that monstrousity, give up."

Sorry. Is that done? Wow.

Certainly not my cup of motoroil... What is with that scoop!?

I don't know if I would have sprayed the underside of the hood with rubberized undercoating either, if that is what you used... Not sure how that stuff reacts to heat/flammability

OK, makes sense why it's there.

But stick one of these over it:

Go Pro Stock! er.. SHO Stock!

Any reason you can't use a tall rear cowl? You should only need to have the opening in a high-pressure zone, and the windshield creates that too...

hmmm. That was back in 01. No wonder i dont know about it. Was that car ever on a dyno?

You could put one of those huge cowls on it. Kinda like the formula firebird ones.

What was back in '01? The thing only got running recently.

Looks ok. If you get fed up with it, try a vinyl wrap. You can always peel those off.

it ran all last summer and fall. took it apart last November for a tranny upgrade.

the tranny will going in for a rebuild next week. there is a local shop that does rebuilds with shift improver kits and all the goodies. most importantly they didn't laugh at me when I asked if they could build that can hold 300lb/ft (at least through the receiver.) anyway, the project is definitely heating up.

I think I'll just leave the hood as it is, I'm going for a subtle look (as subtle as possible, considering) so I'll just see how it looks outside, when its setting on four tires.

i need some more pics before i can decide if i like it or not... if you used some bondo/fiberglass and smoothed the scoop into the hood, i think it would look decent... but as far as color i cant tell just from that shot

what i think would be cool, although you'd have to fab your own hood, is to put a cowl hood on it but have the cowl come up so that it covers everything but the inlet for the intercooler. so the bottom of the inlet is even with the top of the cowl. in effect you have a sort of "scoop tumor" on top of the cowl. then off the back of the inlet run it raised and even with the top of the inlet so you sort of have a second cowl.

that'd be the shiznittles.

so the totals so far. In the interest of impartially, I didn't vote myself. but if I did vote it would probably be option 4.

looks good: 1
paint the hood flat black(or add a other cosmetic feature): 5
give up your done: 2
WTF (not an official option): 2
