I need new "hood lifters" or gas struts.

Rock Auto lists the SACHS product part# SG304001 for $11.80 each for my '89 SHO.

Dimensions: Compressed length: 14"
Extended length: 20"

They also list Monroe part # 901241 for $12.36 each.

Dimensions: Compressed length: 14.25"
Extended length: 19.625"
Travel: 5.375"

(1) Are dimensions the same but only that SACHS uses nominal dimensions.

(2) There is a comment for the Monroe part that says:

"Exc. w/Elect Connection"

Does this mean that this part number excludes the electrical connection that comes with the part. I wouldn't think "Exc." means Except.

Anyway I don't need an electrical connection so what is this all about?

(3) J.C. Whitney calls them lift supports - gas-charged replacements made by Strong Arm. Part No. ZX133456W for $20.99 each.

Almost twice the cost of the Rock Auto parts.

Anyone have any experience with any of these, which is preferred, or another manufacturer altogether.

I couldn't find any replacements by Ford or Motorcraft.

Thanks.

I've never heard of any lift struts having electrical connections. Get the Sachs; I believe that's what ford used as OEM anyway. Plus, they're cheaper. I'm sure Sachs is rounding. A quarter inch difference isn't enough to make a difference.

NAPA has them...worked fine on my car. Rockauto is not so cheap anymore bc of high shipping charges.

I'll try NAPA. I've noticed that shipping charges sometimes negate the savings on RockAuto products.
