Hi folks. I've been a member of this board for about 2 weeks and it is VERY HELPFUL! :D

Anyway, here is my situation. I have an '89 MTX, feels very solid. The struts are firm and were replaced about a year ago, as were my sway bar links on all corners. The ride is typically excellent and the car handles rough roads, etc. quite well.

HOWEVER... my butt-accelerometer detects a bit of "hobby horsing" if I hit a particularly uneven pavement joint, and I also detect a slight hobby-horsing if I tap the brakes, say, at a toll booth.

What might be causing this? My theories are either worn out top strut bushing, or the subframe bushings. (I am hoping it is not the strut bushings due to pain-in-the-butt to replace 'em).

Oh... almost forgot... I still have the ORIGINAL STOCK subframe bushings. doh Gotta do the recall thing.

Does anyone here have any experience with this problem?

Thanx in advance.

If your subframe bushings are bad you will have horizontal shiny spots on your intake manifold.

SHODWN, way to make a new member welcome  Or was there some advice in your comment?

WakaShoMan: You said you replaced the struts about a year ago, did you consider replacing the springs? I understood your header just fine, but I've also heard it called porpoising too.

The stock springs are doubtfull to hold up over 13 years. Save up, and replace with Eibach or Intrax, then you can also replace your strut mounts and bearing at the same time. If you plan on keeping the struts you bought, assuming the are a replacement for stock, you should stick with Eibach. Many here say the Intrax aren't the best combo with stock struts, and the Eibach while more expensive by just a little, will lower the car less, and in some cases in the GenI actually raise the sagging rear end.

Do a search here on springs and you'll find a ton of topics to read and come to your own conclusions. Welcome!

Ya, I thought that a shiny shop on the intake was from worn out motor mounts?? The shiny spot would not happen to be on the front on the intake closest to the front of the car, would it? That is usually where they occur the most offen, it seems!?

LAMO!!

Scuffs on intake manifold = motor mounts. Bad sfb's would result in sloppier shifting and unresponsive front end handling (duh).
