Higher mileage sho a good buy?

I want to start by saying I'm a long time lurker. I joined about a year and a half ago but ended up getting a Focus st instead of a SHO, anyway the family has grown too big for my st to handle and am looking at the sho again. Do those of you with the higher mileage early gen 4 cars have any issues with them? I'm a Ford tech but the Shos are few and far between I'm my area so I don't have much experience with them in particular, I know the major stuff turbos, water pump and ptu. I came across one with 87k for $14k clean carfax with the exception of a California lemon law buy back around said milage. I also know that the ptu was replaced just shy of 60k. The car would also come with a factory 12k 12 month bumper to bumper Rav warranty from Ford. So any reasons why I shouldn't jump on this car. Sorry for the long read and appreciate any input. This has an element of worry in it.

If you are in the Ford world, you will have a better chance of solving issues that are yet unknown.

What year is it?

Do you know the origin of the lemon law buyback? I would get a detailed Oasis report and see what it says.

2012 as for the buy back California has the strictest laws not fixed in a certain time frame bam buy back not fixed after several attempts bam buy back........from what I could gather they keep having issues with the tail lamp chrome peeling..... nothing major was in the detailed oasis report kinda minor for a buy back. We have tons of the dual clutch focus due to buy backs, that I can understand peeling chrome not so much.

I assume CPO warranty from Ford not a dealer-originated warranty? Then I would buy it, and consider an extended Premiumcare Ford Protect warranty before the CPO i s out if you intend to keep it beyond that. If you are a DIY'r you may not even need the extended warranty. But there are a myriad of reasons otherwise to have that peace of mind about set costs.

I agree you are in a unique situation of skill set and access to lift and tools. The cost of parts is really the only issue as they aren't cheap. Also add watch the timing chain to your list from the first post on things to watch.

My 2013 SHO has 155k on her and she's going along strong. Maintenance is important, but you being at the Ford house should help a lot. The only problem I've encountered was the tranny shudder, but some No Shudder and new fluid made it go away and no problem since.

Isn't 87,000 miles way too high for a lemon law buyback? And aren't they usually the result of serious issues? I Cant believe the flaking chrome would qualify the car as a lemon.

I've had great luck with mine. Bought a 2010 two years ago for $12,250 with 117k, up to 137k now with two cross country road trips down, no issues. It's been on a livernois stg 4+ tune for that time period.

I've been over the top on maintenance stuff since I have access to a lift and shop... I've done coolant, trans fluid x2, ptu fluid x2, rd fluid x1.

Only issues have been outside temp sensor reads 50 all the time (men sensor didn't fix it) and I had to replace an actuator on the HVAC recirc as the gears stripped out.

If you're looking to buy something high mileage you should be able to find a nice car under $10k with around 90k miles. You know what to look for in terms of care... I'm planning to buy another 2010 in a year or two so I can play with this one a bit more.

I'm not real familiar with buy backs so I can't say if 87k is high I did talk with our sales department and they confirmed that the reasoning behind the buy back was "fit and finish" as i suspected buy what I could find in the oasis report. I'm currently in the appraisal process on my Focus ST so we'll see how that goes

Well I didn't act fast enough to get the 12 but found a 1 owner local 2015 clean carfax with 100k and new Michelin tires so I snagged it up, only down side is the paint has quite a few rock chips on the hood and front bumper cover but the interior is like new no wear on anything and it very clean mechanically. Anyway here's some pictures

Yeah, 100k should produce a fair number of rock chips! Get it repainted, then clear wrapped.
