High pitched whining from engine bay

I've noticed a noise recently that doesnt quite sound like the whisting of an air leak but almost like the whine of a bearing thats going out. I only hear it very quietly at lower speeds when I get on the gas, im worried it could be a turbo bearing but I feel like I would hear that at higher speeds too.

Problem is I only hear it when moving and on the gas, if I hit the gas in park I don't hear it

Not that I've noticed, ill keep a nose out. However it does seem to be higher up than the PTU I was going to try to sit on the front of the engine bay and have someone drive across the parking lot

You can get a little bit of boost by stalling the torque converter.

Apply the parking brake (if your confident it works) hold the brake put in reverse so you dont run the person over under the hood, the smash the accelerator for a short time. Then put the transmission in neutral to cool the converter down.

Have someone under the hood with a stethoscope to listen to various areas. A long screwdriver to the ear also works.

If you have a good set of Jack stands you can put it up in the air so all 4 wheels are off the ground and try to duplicate the noise. Note that AVS and traction control may not like that. You my have warning lights on untill you drive it on the street again.

Usualy one failed/bad turbo makes the other over work and make noise. Our car can run o.k. on just one turbo.

This does not mean the noise is the turbo as others have mentioned.

Fuel pumps will whine under load when they are going. How many miles, is there a time, or any stress put on the fuel pump?

SHO_Off420 I'm having a similar issue. I did a video recording with a boost gauge installed, unfortunately, at only 4.3 MB, it won't let me upload it here. I also did some audio recording (won't accept this upload either) under the hood, it seem loudest on the floor of passenger footwell/firewall . Obviously, that is near right bank turbo and front of engine. I was suspecting an air leak under higher boost, so I removed the compressor outlet duct to intercooler to check for a split in the pipe and removed the two recirculation valves to check that opened and look seated, then reinstalled and tightened the hose clamps. There is absolutely no noise in normal driving, even at boost up to 10 psi. Only when downshifting, WOT and higher revs, the boost holds at 13 psi and the squeal is there. It sounds like accessory belt, but having the A/C on or off doesn't alter this. Doesn't sound like chain drive or water pump. Can't get noise this at idle or revving at idle. Not having any issues with loss of coolant and did an oil sample analysis, no coolant was detected. My dealer can't look at the car until October.

Ok, that's Definately not the fuel pump...fuel pumps failing sound kinda like super charger whine.

Yeah, I meant tune. But if it sounds like that vid rickshaw just posted, I'm pretty sure its not the fuel pump dying.

Honestly I'd have to say that sounds like one of his front pulleys, try spraying them with water one at a time and see if the noise stops

How big are you? The front of these cars probably can't support over say 200lbs in the engine bay area lol

I've climbed around it alot already looking and listening, im sure ill be fine on the front of it for 20 feet or so at 5 miles an hour....
