where are ya'll finding HIDs to mount in the existing housing? i've got a pair of pilot lights with the fog light mod, but for some reason, the bulbs don't seem to last worth a damn, and i'm tired of replacin em every couple of months at 20 a pair.

I'm using these Pilot lights. Since they use an H3 bulb, I purchased an H3 HID kit and mounted the ballasts underneath the header panel. The bulbs screw in exactly like the stock ones, and I used silicone around the edge of the bulb to keep water from getting in. Almost 3 years with no issues.

My brother bought them for me off ebay for changing his motor. I think the guys name is xtremehidoutlet on ebay it was an H3 hid kit for 49.99 with free shipping. And I have basic pilot driving lights from autozone for 20.00 with no modifacation except sealing the vent on the bottom and sealing the back. And so far no problems in rain or anything. Here is the guys number 3366977001. He can do just fogs or fogs/low beams only or fogs/lows/high and let him know mike from SHOhio sent you. You have to call tues-fri I believe

the ones Mr95GL posted would be preferable to use than the ones Onequicksho posted since they dont have the 'fluting' for scattering beam.

i had HID hi/lows in my 91 and ended up taking them out due to the scatter from the stock housings not being able to be adjusted to my liking (out of oncoming drivers eyes).

until someone makes a clear lens housing for the gen 1, i probably wont be putting HID lights in. they look nice, and i really like the temp (color) of 8000K bulbs, but its not very considerate as a drive to put out so much glare and cause problems for oncoming drivers.

just wanted to post that i have had no one flash there lights at me for blinding them, plus they put off no more glare into the other lane than a standard hids in my buddy bmw ( i did some studying/tests before/after instal) the last thing i want to do is blind someone and have them wreck into me or the ditch

no hard feelings i understand where your coming from

neither did I until my car was coming at me in opposing traffic (let someone borrow it, they were bringing it back as I was leaving in my wife's car to go get cigarettes, and i couldn't believe the glare coming off of the main lamps (i never had issues with my HID fogs since they're so damn low) not only that but about the same time last year my battery leaked and i had one of the ballasts located by the battery and it destroyed it. so i elected not to install a new kit.

dont get me wrong I love the lights, and if there were a way to make the bulbs not scatter the way they do and have the beam cut off that a projection headlight does i would totally rock them, or if i could get the clear lenses that the Gen 2s and gen 3s have (disco ball headlights?) i would be able to make an HID projector retrofit and be okay with it.

but as of right now i've not seen a gen 1 with HIDs that i liked, one had projectors wtih nightshades lenses with holes cut, the other had impala headlamp housings grafted in.

I put HIDs in my wife's 95 in stock headlight housings, but they are brand new and have no yellowing/fading. Glare is not an issue as long as you aim them correctly. I aimed them a little lower than I perhaps could have to prevent it from getting in peoples' eyes.

Might do the HID fog lights too, it'd be pretty sweet to have 4 HID bulbs in the car! Talk about your own personal sun.

with the driving lights i have its a narrow wide beam so you dont get blinded ( i did the same thing, i had my brother drive by me and i wasent getting blinded) but i totaly agree with you on the GEN1 lenses i too wish the made clear lenses it would look so much cleaner

Also wanted to post when I took that picture of the hid's. I had my phone real close to the road. when your squating you get just a very small bit of glare just as you would get with factory hid's and standing you just see that there's light on

Some caveats to the picture you're about to see - it was taken with a blackberry, and it likes to magnify glare about 5,000 times. The foglights (which are regular ol' pilots) look like they're pointing straight at the lens. Obviously, they are not. So yes, the headlights look REALLY REALLY glare-y, but trust me, they aren't. I might have my wife take a picture with a real camera to show you, but for now this is all I have.

Also notice the fact that the beam from the headlights looks extra wide... I got switchback LED bulbs for the front parking lamps and they are very very bright white when not being used as a turn signal. I also have white LEDs in the fishtanks! But as you can see they are quite outclassed by the HIDs. So, without further ado:

So you're the guys that ignite the interior of my car in blue light from a mile behind me. As far as why I don't flash you? If you've intentionally modified your car, and you will be past me in 20 seconds, whats the point? When I do flash you, you put on ALL your lights and blind me for sure, anyway.

pretty sure you are the one i was having this same argument with almost a year ago when i had my HIDs installed and i used the same 'I never get flashed from traffic' comment.

i also remember you challenging me to go take a picture at night of how much scatter my HIDs threw off at night and when i went to go do that i never even bothered since even with the beams adjusted all the way down it still scattered 20ft up the building i had the car pointed at from 20ft away.

head on in dim light pics dont work, take a pic from behind the car with your headlights pointed at a building from a 40ft distance in the dark if there isnt a definite difference in the amount of light shining below 3ft up the wall and above it. you fail. sorry. i was officially pwn'd back then as well.

Oh calm down. I was driving an ****** (which is a pretty low vehicle) in front of that car for that exact reason, and the glare from them wasn't any worse than anybody else's headlights. Certainly not bad enough to need to flip the mirror up or anything. Like I said, I aimed them pretty low.

And, I wanted (and ordered) 5000k lights, from the un-named forum vendor of these lights. I received 8000k lights after a month and a half. So basically I got dicked, but what can you do? I am ordering new 5000k bulbs to reduce the blue-ocity of the lights.

You do realize that those fog lights lens are prismatic, right? It will actually trap some light inside and scatter it. It's not any different than sticking HID bulbs in your headlamps.

Well if IIRC the stock headlights for GEN I have a design on them to focal the light out as a beam and not scatter it. With HID's. Thou it may. Now the driving light. Yes I do know they are prismatic but, from what I have seen so far they scatter the light wide and narrow and, not all over the place
