Been lurking for a while, decided to finally join. Appreciate all the good info i'm reading on this site. I don't have an SHO, never did, but I do want one. I'm a Ford fan and currently drive a 03 Explorer Limited that has been a great vehicle. I've had Old's, GMC, Caddy, but nothing has treated me as good as my Explorer. I just got rid of my 2010 CTS and want to replace it with a 2017 or newer SHO. I like big sedans, I've had great owner experience with my Explorer, thus my decision on the Taurus SHO. But I have some questions and concerns namely the water pump, that I'll post in the correct forum. Thanks all.

There are some concerning spots. active not passive maintenance will pay dividends. I would also look online for extended Ford specific warranty just before the factory one runs out. At least for powertrain. AWD and TT adds alot of complexity = $

Thanks...I'm all about active maintenance, always have been. As aircraft mechanic I understand the value of it. The drive train is more complex, but so is my 4wd Explorer drive train and regular maintenance especially fluids have kept it in good shape with over 126k miles in the last 16 years.

My thought is to get the PP which includes better engine cooling, better cooling for the awd PTU, trans, and I believe the turbos are also water cooled.

The main difference is the 4x4 is rwd based vs the taurus awd fwd based architecture. the fwd is not as durable at higher power levels. The PTU (fwd version of transfer case) is small and only holds 18oz of fluid. PP is good with the extra cooling

Thanks all. I'm taking my time to find the right one. I don't want a 2019 since they omitted the power steering column adjust. So looking for a very low miles 2018 preferably either in silver or burgandy. As of right now I want the PP for mostly the added cooling. Somehow I see that as more important than ACC, LKA and CA. These are nice driver assist options and to ensure I won't miss not having them, I'm convincing myself they only serve to lose focus from the road.
