Is it a cam problem?

Hey. I wanted to know if someone would download this, listen and see if they have ever heard it. It's on a 1996 SHO. It's been clicking like crazy for a month or two now. It still drives very good.

661 k engine trouble

Thanks.

Definitely worth getting it fixed. No sense in throwing out a perfectly good car if you can save it for $400-$500. Go to www.v8sho.com for more information. Fortunately for you, THE cam-mecca is in GA. And, now that I've seen this video/heard the sound, I am much more confident that mine doesn't have any problems yet. Hope this helps!

Mcgilles, thanks for the info. Right now I am driving it thinking whenever it konks, it konks. I didn't know this could effect the whole engine. I'll definitely get it seen about right away before I quit driving it.

I am reading up on these links. It seems I'm not alone, and there's nearly a lawsuit against Ford for this cam sprocket issue.....Thanks for the link Squall.....What do you mean by Cam-Mecca though? I have heard that LKQ sees alot of SHOs......

98Taurus, I live in between Macon and Atlanta, near the state prison and all....

Thanks for your help. I am gonna save this car, well, with Ford's mechanic help..... squint

Cam Mecca, meaning FPS out of Georgia. They weld the cam sprockets so the failure will not happen. And STOP DRIVING IT NOW!!!! You may not have bent the valves yet. If all you need is a replacement cam, then that's not too too bad. If you keep driving it, you will bend valves, and destroy the ENTIRE motor. Want to take a stab at how much they cost?

Don't worry 91MTX. I stalled the car and made arrangements to have it towed to Douglasville, GA, FPS, for a diagnosis of what it'll need. I'll let you folks know how well they do with it and what it breaks me.

The only thing I am gonna take a stab at is myself if I have to get a new engine. As I'm reading others horror though, I feel pretty lucky it still rolls.

You stalled the car?? Will it not restart or crank?? If not, the damage may already have been done.

You mean by "stalled" is stopped driving it, right? Or is it, it "stalled" while you were driving?
Like Mike said your engine could probably be dead already. Don't even try to start your engine!!!

Well, I've had my car back for one week now and I can say it's in great shape. I put the engine cover back on it today hoping it'll be awhile before it comes off again. That sound was a loose sprocket. It's what the lucky people experience before the whole engine goes. It's what careless people ignore as if it were some stick stuck in a spoke. wink I got it towed up there, I stalled it...I needed it, but I got by. Valve adjustments, spark plugs, cleaned intake runners..

FPS did a great job. Doug FPS and Connie FPS were nice and talked me thru the whole operation. He gave me some hints on keeping the engine cleaner.
My gas bill has gone up, but I won't place any blame. Stomp. I was kinda worried because there is a possiblity some shavings of metal could have got into the engine when doing the weld, but looks like all turned out ok.

And I gotta tell ya, it was a sweet price compared to what Uncle Vinny was asking. ****, he even wanted me to pay for acorn clean up....
