Well, I have gotten a little impatient and decided to try and replace my VSS.

So, first task...drop the Y-pipe...sounds easier than it really is. The bolts at the back are so corroded that they unrecognizable. no chance in getting them off. Kinda makes replacing that little bugger hard..

I was going to cut the bolts off, but I dunno what really to do. What else is to be expected from a northern car that has never had the pipe dropped.... :(

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Teg..just do a search for VSS here and a BUNCH of posts will come up that will help quite a bit! I just did mine a bit ago. My bolts came off after a bunch of soaking with liquid wrench. Good luck!

yeah, I followed those threads closely and read them earlier today.

The problem is, the bolts are rusted beyond rcognition...I am thinking cutting them off with a dremel or something might be the only way. I just don't know what the right way to go about this is....

Which bolts? The ones that connect the Y-pipe to the exhaust manfolds or the ones that connect the outlet of the Y-pipe to the cat-back?

Y-pipe to catback...

The other bolts on the flanges that attach to the manifolds look alright. a little rusted, but some tiquid wrnech will help greatly.

But the rear bolts are bad...

The rear bolts are cheap at any auto parts store. You could even get replacements at Home Depot for a couple of bucks. Just cut off the old ones and save yourself a lot of hassle.

AutoZone (and most other autoparts stores) carry these bolts.

Hacksaw them out, then take the pieces to the store to match up a pair of replacements.
