I'm hoping someone here can help me figure out what's causing me some problems.

Sometimes, maybe once a week, my cold SHO will do the strangest thing at startup. I always turn the key for a second and listen for the fuel pump to stop buzzing (whatever it's doing) and then start the car. Once in a while, it will immediately shoot up to almost 2000 RPMs and let out a horrendous noise, which only lasts a second, but sounds like the engine's gonna fall apart. It's as if it's getting no oil for the first second, or something. It never does this when warm, and like I said, it only occurs once in a while.

I always keep fresh Mobil 1 in it, and always use decent quality AC Delco Ultraguard filters.

I can't figure out why it goes straight to 2000 RPMs, and then I have no idea what that godawful noise is!

Thanks for any ideas.

Actually, a loud trumpet (with a bad trumpet player playing) is a pretty good description of the sound.

Any ideas as to why?
