Help with no-start problem

Ok I was driving fine for 2 days then I turn the car off. 10 mins later. SHO no go. Tryed getting a jump, Nope. Tryed filling it with gas, Nope. So I tow it home. I try to bump start it. No such luck. So here I sit. I try and run the codes. The check engine light is dim. All others are fine. Just the CE light is dimm and when i jump the wires it doesnt do anything. No fan turn on NO CODES. I tryed listne for the fuel pump cant hear it. Tryed jumping it. cant hear it. So I dont want to replace it if its not bad. WHAT DO I DO ? Why would it not run the codes ? The car cranks but no start.

It sounds like your computer is not getting full ground or power. Check the connection of the ground wire near your battery that connects to the fender firewall, check the connector just a few inches up line from that. Make sure that the contacts are clean and that the connection is tight.

Check your battery terminals, make sure that they are tight and that the wires are free from crud. If you have aftermarket lugs make sure that the connection holding them in them is tight.

There is also a ground strap that goes from the back of the intake often on the rear passenger side support to the back firewall. Make sure that connection is tight.

Those would be the first places to look for problems.

Edit: Also check the voltage across the battery terminals to make sure that the battery is not low.

Ok, here is a rookie question. I see a lot of people mentioning that they ran the codes.
How do you do that? Do you need a special tool to hook up to the car to check them?
