i have an 89 mtx and when i originally bought it i had to replace the valve cover gaskets cause i had about a shot glass of oil in each plug tunnel. while doing so i changed the plugs but didnt have enough money to get the new plug wires. since getting it back together it does run better but it will die on me from time to time when i puch the clutch in but only when coming to a stop for example. always starts back up but its really anoying. would the wires possibly being fouled cause this problem? someone also told me they thought it sounded like it was missing but i dont here it, maybe im nuts

What ahppens when it dies? Could be IAB. I would guess your wires are bad though.

what do u mean what happens? ill be drivin and the light turns red so i go from say 2500 to clutch and the rpms just drop steady from 2500 to like 500 then the oil pressure light and dead. i just start it up again, sometimes it cranks for a llittle bit before it'll fire but usually fires back up almost instantly.

the VSS is the cause of your stalling issue when clutching while rolling, I had a member here with the same problem, stalling when downshifting and such, told him to replace the VSS and the problem dissapeared.

The VSS tells the computer that you are moving and keeps the RPMs up a little bit to compensate, if there is no VSS signal, then the computer does not know that you are moving and will drop the idle right down, causing a stalling condition

by no means am i trying to get out of replacing the vss but could it be? it doesnt stall everytime or even every time i drive it. i did quite a bit of drivin today and it didnt happen once. i need to replace the vss anyways because it doesnt work but it just seems odd if it was that i would think it would stall alot more.

Does your cruise control work?

*EDIT* Never mind, I see you're planning on replacing the VSS anyway. Mine hasn't stalled like yours does now since replacing the VSS.
