Hey guys, gotta quick question for the masses.

The idler pulley on my '93 ATX is creating quite the 'whine' and it really needs to be replaced. I've had it looked at and the concensus matches my own opinion. The whine does not change with any movement of the steering, ONLY with engine RPM's. Put a mechanics stethoscope on it, and hoo-boy does she whine!

Now for the question(s):

Does anyone have a part number or dimensions for this pulley? I went to my local parts place (that is usually very reliable; Only reason I go there) and the ones that they had listed, were definately NOT the right parts.

Secondly, how big of a job is it to change out the pulley?

By the looks of it, it seems pretty straight forward. Remove the battery, remove the serpentine belt by releasing tension on the tensioner pulley by turning it clockwise with a 14mm socket, remove the pulley with a 14mm socket, and re-install the new one. Right? Wrong? Need Info!

Thanks in advance!

Later!

yes your process looks to be exactly correct. try Autozone for the tensioner, if its not instock they likely can get it. if you just change the pulley, use air to get the bolt in very tight so you dont back it out on belt install

opps reread your post you are changing idler pulley not tensioner pulley. even easier unbolt after belt removal install new idler pulley. offset of upper idler is diff then lower.

Offset? I think thats only applicable on the MTX due to the 2 belts needed. The ATX only runs a single belt. Thanks for the info though.

yes one belt for atx, but 2 front pulleys upper and lower , plus tensioner pulley. i think its the bottom front is the much heavier duty pulley and they are offset on the back maybe 1/4". while your there unbolt both anyway and make sure they both spin nice and free. then you will see what im refurring to offset. make sure you get them back on right or the belt will be off the center of the pulleys on install.

Yep, there are two idler pulleys on the ATX. One is directly above the other. They are different pulleys and have different offsets. FPN is probably going to be your best bet for getting it/them new. Just find out which one you need and use the parts request form. Odds are that since one is definitely bad, the other will probably be bad too (or very close to it).

Changing them is very easy. Not counting fooling with the battery, I could do it in 5-10 minutes easy.
