Ive searched and read,This car does many different things.Sometimes its a pain to start likes its not getting gas(not often),other times while driving it with throw the CE light RPMs will drop to 0 and the car will violently shake,if i turn it off turn it on and let the clutch out it will pop and spit and sputter then run fine with the CE light on and the RPMs at 0.This is a MTX.Thank you for reading and any input.I am new to the SHO world. The only code the car throws is 551 IAS.(IRMC)

It is behind the harmonic balancer on the crank. Here,s a good reference link http://www.shophoenixproject.com/lower60k/lower60k.htm .check your codes again to make sure you have all of em! James was saying on here about the SHO has a problem when it is hot, mine will run like crap and fail to start easy if i get her hot shut it off then try to restart, tach goes dead n takes a few tries to get her started. I,m sure my issue is a bad CID.

Welcome to the forum, CrazieSHO!

Sounds to me like you have a couple of problems:

The symptoms you describe are classic for cam sensor failure, not crank sensor failure, but they could also be due to a bad dis.

If the cam sensor is not working, the pcm doesn't know how to time the spark at startup, so it can take several tries to get it started. the tach dropping to 0 is either a cam sensor or a dis problem.

The IAS code means that it cannot read the intake air temp sensor. In my experience, the SHO motor will not run properly if this sensor is not working, so it will be important for you to determine why that sensor is not reading correctly.

DIS stands for Distributorless Ignition System. The DIS module is located on the crossover tube on the intake manifold. Its a grey box with 2 electrical connectors on both sides. Its held on by 4 TINY bolts (5.5 mm IIRC). The cam sensor (CID) is located in the rear most exhaust cam on the front of the engine Its held on by 2 5.5 mm bolts IIRC.. Both are VERY easy to replace!!

ya sounds like the cam sensor to me too. its so easy to replace that one unlike the crank sensor... you just have to remove the battery, move the power steering reservoir up, unplug the sensor then remove the 2 screws holding it in.

crank sensor you have to take the entire front end of the motor off...
