2011 SHO non pp. 156,500 miles. Owned since 30k miles. Stock besides drop in air filter. All regular maintenance done on time EXCEPT water pump timing chain has never been replaced. I wasn’t really aware of the big issue. Now that I’m a DIY amateur mechanic and no longer wanting to fork over $ to dealers, I’m stuck. Cooling fans run at what seems random times making me think it’s electrical. I’ve swapped relays in fuse box but still it remains. Coolant level normal. Where I should I start? Do I need a new 190 T-stat? T-stat housing or seal? Coolant temp sensor/sender? Cooling fan controller? Could use any and all suggestions on what I can look at and or test. I’m to the point of get it fixed or it’s time to trade my old red SHOney in. Thanks in advance!

I have a similar problem, only I suspect that my fans are NOT coming on at random intervals. It is a 2011 SHO PP. Three times when stopped in traffic, the temp gauge shot up, a chime started, and a blue temp warning light came on. Didn't hear the fans.
As soon as I could start moving, temperature dropped quickly to normal.
I suspect that the fan controller is faulty, but its not cheap.
BTW the cooling fans are supposed to come on when the A/C is on the "max cool" setting, according to the shop manual.

my temp went high also - maybe 3 times a yr - purchased the Gates FCM128 module- easy install - fans kick on when A/C is clicked on which they didn't before - not all the time anyways

because temp went high at idle in traffic- chime- blue temp warning light 115K mile '** pulled over - shut car off - popped hood and reached down and gave each fan a push with my fingers - started car up and heard fans whirr on - temp came down to normal in less than a minute - things wear out - better the module than the 1300.00 Motorcraft fan setup- ( rockauto price)

I was inquiring to the original post why he would start shotgunning parts if he wasn't overheating then realized this a very old post.
