I'll try to keep this short...
I took a trip down to Adair, IA on Friday to meet up with Clay to get the cowl hood from him. My buddy Matt rode with me, also a sho nut, he too was picking up a couple parts from Clay. The ride down went great, got 29.4 mpg with the car, made really good time! Once I took the interchange to get on I35 north off of I80, the car severely started to shudder and as soon as I hit the brakes it went away. There was absolutely no where to pull over at this point and traffic was pretty backed up with it being 5:15 PM on a Friday. About half a mile up I was finally able to get pulled over. Immediately I saw 3 lug nuts were gone and the studs were broke. I had basic tools and a jack in my trunk but no extra studs and I forgot to put my hammer in the tool box.
After Adam hooked me up with a couple numbers of some Des Moines locals, calling the police to send out an officer to "possibly" give me a ride. (The dispatch lady didn't know if the officer would be able to", and calling a car quest nearby...A guy on his way home from work stopped to see if we needed help. He was nice enough to give us a ride to carquest and back. In the mean time, I had previously called Greg, one of the contacts that Adam gave me and Greg called me back when we were our way to Carquest. Greg was ready and willing to come out with the appropriate tools to help me get my car back on the road. I was pretty sure I could get it fixed but told him I would call him back either way. Picked up the parts, a hammer, and some PB blaster as the studs looked to be originals. Luckily they pounded out with ease the new ones went in even easier.
I have been a member of this forum for over 7 years and have read countless thread of instances like this. When we were stranded, the first idea that came into my head was to make this thread as I knew somebody on here would be able to help me, and if they couldn't...they would work their ***** off to find me some help. Not only was I lucky that the wheel didn't fly off at 80+ mph but I am very lucky to be a part of this community.
I just wanna say thanks to everyone on here, people like you are becoming a rare-breed. Long live the SHO...
