Okay, on the starter, I'm putting mine back on. The little ground that originally comes from the solenoid bolt. It has a black cable attached to it, then the head of it is metal and it's got a cricle in the middle to put a bolt through. It came off the upper bolt near the solenoid. I can't remember whether I need to put it between the solenoid and the block, or the block and the head of the bolt...

I think it originally comes from the negative cable, and is bolted on, on the second upper bolt that holds the starter on. It's on that bolt, but I'm not sure if it should go between the solenoid and the block or between the block and the head of the bolt. If that makes it anymore clear.

The negative battery cable does not attach to the solenoid. At all. It attaches to the stud which secures the starter to the block on top.

The solenoid itself has three connections. One goes from the solenoid to the brushes, the other is where your battery, B+ and main power cables are connected. The smaller post or spade terminal is where the S-terminal lead is connected.

To clarify things a bit, the bare 1" long wire that comes out of the starter goes to the bottom of the solenoid. That is not a ground, its 12v when the starter is engaged. The top of the solenoid has a wire coming from the battery + , always 12v there. There is a small wire on the spade lug connector, that tells the solenoid to close it's contacts and send the power to the starter.
