Hey guys, I'm putting my engine back together and when I got to the part where the intake crossover tube slides into the surge tank grommets, the mounting holes on the crossover tube wouldn't line up with the mounting bracket holes. It's about a 1/4" off.

Is there a difference , left and right, to the two intake runners? I'm hoping it's something else because I don't want to take this thing apart again. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Tom

You may have to rotate the rubber connectors to the plenums to allow the holes to line up better. Did you take the intake apart? That makes it a bit tougher to line them up. You will need to loosen the hose clamps on each of the runners to allow the manifold to spread or shrink to fit on the alignment pins on the heads.

I just took my intake completly apart to clean during my 141K. It all ligned back up with no problems however I had every clamp bolt and bracket loose until I had every fastner in its location(except for the secondaries and runners to paliniums). Last thing I tightened was the clamps.

Yup - loosen the 2 metal "L" brackets on the front & rear plenum until they're almost off (just a turn or two in there, get all the bolts started, and the crossover will go back on. It's common. Like the guys above said, leave everything loose until it's down snug on the heads.

Yes, I tokk everything apart so I could powder coat and polish and clean everything. I had loosened the hose clamps to let the pins mate to the holes in the intake but thought I could tighten them up after that. I'll loosen everything up again and try again. Thanks Scott, Fred et al.

Thanks guys, that did it, lined up like downtown. BTW how do you post jpeg on here or is that a no-no? I'd like to post a pic of the engine before it goes in the buggy, if that's okay with the moderators. Thanks again.

Thomas,

I'm not a moderator but I imagine I will be promoted to such one day, and will field this question on behalf of all struggling amateur moderators.

You can post jpegs here, just use common sense on the size.
If it is a picture of a **** woman, you can email it directly to me and I will make a judgement call on whether it shall be posted or not.
Always thinking of the best for the forum....

To post a picture, you simply put in the url and in front of the url, put this (img) but use the square paranthesis brackets [] instead of the curved ones.
After the url, put (/img) and again use the square paranthesis brackets.

So, it would look like this (img)http://www.deltaburkechewedmyarmoff.com/shewashungry.jpg (/img) with the only difference being the [] instead of the ().

You first muxt have a host to download you pics to such as a personal web page. The pics will not be on your web page just hiding in the files on your host server. Then when you post you click the image button below were you type your post. A box will open up with ( http:// ) and you just finish it with web/file extension IE.

http://chancetostamp.com/images/shonostrils.jpg

then hit the OK button within the box and it will do the rest. good luck and if you need help just email me.
