I was twisting a distributor two days ago with a timing light in my left hand while watching a vacuum gauge. Still relevant tuning methods. The 429 really likes 20° advanced but not so much on the restart.

I had a choke cable rigged to the distributor on my olds 455 for starting purposes. Keep the bolt snug but not tight and check regularly. Lol
Ended up buying a high torque starter and huge battery, then upgraded cables after smoking the stock ones

My go to is to run a stretched out spring in the dizzy, so that total timing is in at a lower rpm, I like 2,500. Changes the entire way those old v8s drives.
