Friend just got ahold of me. Guy he works with has a 97 and the secondaries froze up and broke the actuator cable. So does anyone have one around. He didnt have much time to talk to me, so I dont know all the details, jsut what parts he needs. A lower intake and the secondary Intake actuator cable.

Its not very common for the secondaries to lock up. I would remove the lower intake, disassemble and clean it before purchasing another one. He can use the IMRC off of a 3.0 duratec taurus. The cable is slightly longer, and i believe 3 of the four bolts will work. They are a dime a dozen in yards around here.

It is common for the secondaries to lock up. The plastic gear inside the IMRC shears it's teeth off when the butterflies get gummed up. Then your car is a real dog.

Get a package of big zipties, pry open the secondaries and tie them open. Unplug the box as well.

It'll stumble for a while but will run fine after a few starts.

i just uncliped the secondary rod and they stay open

If you do that, do they flutter?

I just pulled the rod all the way back and then used a really big zip to tie them down in the full open position, then disconnected the electrical to the controller. Had to clear the initial SES and never bothered to do anything else. Its been that way for 2-3 years.

I found it also really good to go in and remove the return springs on the secondaries. Tying them open is not so difficult then. I was amazed that these cars run so well without the IMRC. Like earlier posted your computer has to re think this. So the first few starts are rough but it smooths out and will run fine.

Gunked up!

Any of the popular cam welders out there will tell you the entire intake and intake components need to be cleaned periodically because they do in fact become gunked up!
