The squeaking is coming from the rear wheels. It wont squeak at first, but once the car has been moving for a couple seconds, the squeaking begins. It has becoming worse now, and the squeaks are growing louder and longer. Before they were just squeaking for a couple of seconds, but now it has been a constant 10-15 second squeak interval. Could this be a wheel bearing problem? The only way I can describe the squeak is like a train about to come to a complete stop, it makes that squeaking noise, but not that loud or extreme. Thanks.

My first thought would be the brake pads against the rotors. The rear wheel bearings are sealed and I replaced my original rear hubs and bearings at 255,000 miles for the heck of it. Upon closer inspection, they are in great shape. No lubricant leakage from the bearing races and no signs of excessive play. Jack up the car and spin the wheel. See what is making the noise.

I jacked up the rear two wheels like you said and spun it as hard as I could. The left rear wheel only spins around maybe one and a half times, while the right rear wheel spins around only once. It did not make the squeaking noises at all while I was spinning the two rear wheels. For a second I thought my ebrake was partially engauged (even though I disengauged it) which would be the reason my rear wheels didn't spin that much. I still have no idea what the noises are coming from. All I know is that while I'm driving, they are getting louder everday.

Well, today I was runing some errands, and when I parked the squeaky SHO, I noticed that my rear right white slicer was black rather than white. Would wheel bearing failure cause this? Or is it time for new brakes? I don't know anything about brakes and the 96 brake upgrade is too expensive. Since the rear brakes aren't used that much, should I just replace them with OEM rotors? What else would I need to replace when this is being done? Thanks.

If it's a dust then it's your brakes-if it's oil it's from strut. Your pad/s are shot or caliper is sticking or both. Could be an emergency brake problem also, get raybestos/bendix rotors and pads if you need them. Get lifetime warranty loaded calipers if you need them . Napa and pep boys are good choices.

It also could be the caliper bracket pins are frozen and the caliper is no longer floating.

I experienced a pulsating squeak noise about a year ago, turned out to be the rear hub & bearing unit. The hub would not squeak unless the weight of the car was on the wheels. I replaced r/h side first then after a weekend trip to Parry Sound,Ontario (aprox 800 mi round trip)the left side was doing it by the time we returned.

I had the same problem on my '95 ATX and it was the caliper pins. It's a fairly easy fix. Check this site: http://www.shotimes.com/SHO3rearbrakesqueal.html You can either use the ford parts or autozone has the part for like $12 a side. Just make sure you have the caliper piston allignment tool. If you don't it makes things REALLY hard. (found out the hard way) Good luck!

I had the same problem and it turned out to be the caliper pins. I live in Canada, land of slush and salt, so I usually get this done once a year. Once the pins are replaced with new ones, just have them serviced once a year.
