Well, in a week or two, I'll probally try to get the heater core done and outta the way. I know the BDA's are an issue, so I'll probally replace that too. Is there an a/c core in that box? And if there is, being I still have 12 in there, would I have to yank that when and if I ever update to 134? And, since all my 12 is gone, can I put some compressed air in there to see if I can find a leak ? or is that a bad idea? I know if you burn R-12 a whiff will **** ya if I remember correctly. Finally some danger.. lol I like it.

Yep, the AC evaporator is part of the heater case assembly. The
AC needs to be evacuated prior to removal. Since you have R-12, you need to take it to an AC shop to evacuate the system. Do not vent it to the atmosphere.
For R-134a, the same part can be reused- they did this to mine, although I imagine there might be some prep involved.

Eric, Just make sure you replace ALL the o-rings... That is where most of these systems leak. Definitley replace the BDA, dryer, high side line (comes with oriface tube), and the Evaporator core while in there, just for insurance. Definitley take it somewhere and have them recover it for you. Then when you recharge it... MAKE SURE that you only use 75% of the r12 capacity, so if it calls for 2lbs of r12 then charge 1.75lbs of 134a.

Well.. my friend was saying he thought I could reuse my compressor and what not, but I also know they require special oil in the system. 134 must expand a bit more under pressure? And as far as recovering it.. its gone.. lol I tapped the schrader on the high side after I clicked on the A/C and nothing is there at all. :)

Evap core is the one in front of the radiator? and the 'dryer' is the 'accumulator' ? so many names for some of this stuff.. :)

Well.. it looks like I need a new evap core, BDA, and heater core for the 'behind the dash' stuff. Would like to replace the BDA as a preventative maintenance thing. Are these availiable from Ford, or anywhere else? Same goes for the evap core.

Evap is available aftermarket, BDA probably a ford piece, and make sure you flush your condenser and lines, and use the correct oil (not sure which, we use the BG stuff at work)
