ok guys heres one for ya, i have a kenwood headunit installed in my car by the previous owner. it worked great when i first got it. it since has developed a high pitch whine through the speakers that changed with the engine rpm's. i thought that it was a ground issue.

before i had a chance to look for the source of the whine, i experienced a new problem. about 3 times its happened, i rev up and the volume of the headunit, goes full blast, and the screen goes blank.

i have to hit the face of the unit to get the screen back and then i can lower the volume. does this sound like the headunit is bad or is there something wrong somewhere else in my car?

I would start by finding a good ground for the ground wire on the harness (other than the provided ground wire) and double-checking any splices.

However the second problem is more likely a bad HU.. check the wiring first though....

yeah the whine sounds like a ground loop problem, as to the second one, i dunno. take the HU out and inspect all the wiring you may be able to **** 2 birds with one stone if you find some loose wires. do you have any friends that'd let you swap in the HU into their car (SHO) in order to diagnose if it is a HU problem or not?

In general swapping decks of the same brand should be plug and play since they use the same deck harness for quite a few years. The only time I had trouble was swapping a 2004 deck for a pre 1998 deck of the same brand. Give it a shot!
