I know the other cams are on the way up to us for examination, but something just occurred to me... By any chance did you rotate either the rear cams or the crankshaft once the front head (and naturally the main timing chain) was off the motor???

no i have not the engine was already apart when i got the car except for the heads being removed both the front cams had been removed from the engine so i removed the engine fron the car and removed the blancer and front cover and removed the front head. and removed both cams off the back head then i had just removed the back head the other day. and found the valves bent. know if they turned the engine at the dealer bent the valves is possible maybe i dont know. but that is a likely sernio on what might have happen but i have also thought about the broken timing guide as well? how did it break and why was it also a part of what happen to the valves. i think to much people say. but i like to figure out what happen and why. so it is a puzzle to me and the key to me is to get this car back to prime and run strong thousands of miles on with only 74,000 on it. the car has a lot more life. I had to write something down my dad told me the other day when i removed the head that for once he is glad i did not listen to him about just leaving that other head alone. we have been a family of mechanics for years. being in the heart of NASCAR land so i have been in an around cars my whole life building and repairing etc. went to school aircraft and i like to do things right the first time. my ford truck 73 i redone the motor changed it from 2 wheel to four drive chnged drive train rebuild the front a rear axles lifted it 6 inches rebuilt manual tranny. and it is trouble free 95% of the time and this was done 6 years ago. i am no dummy by any means when i get in to something i have not been in to i read and read more and read somemore then i ask question to gather knowelge on what i am doing and how it is done. to in sure i am doing it right. i am not afriad to say i want to know i am willing to learn anything if some one wants to teach me.i have a saying if informantion is passed on by someones wisdom then nothing is ever forgotten or lost so someones work is never gone. i know i feel like a trouble some person to you all and i am sorry i know you all are very busy. so when you have time and like to teach me something then i am open to learn it. i am off to the machine shop in the moring to get the other head done pray dad pays for this one too LOL. well have a good night and thanks for all the help.

Dang , that engine got hit coming and going . Odd it all happened at once . The guide breaking could have surely caused the multiple collisions from irratic timing .
Have you checked the rotational value of the engine . Does it turn freely ?
I had an engine that let loose a guide . The oil pickup tube was clogged causing oil starvation resulting in the cam journals and cam frictionizing and , I figure the rotational presure alone caused the guide failure putting too much stress on the chain assembly .
The journals in both heads are scared and the cam mains where burnt .
On the bright side I have a pair of jigs to weld loose cams . :boink:
Be sure to pull the oil pan and check for sludge cloging the pick up tube and clean the screen well .
How did the cam journals (heads) and cam mains look ?
