I have a sunroof SHO GEN 2 that needs to have the headliner replaced. I have parts non sunroof parts car of the same color interior. I have drawn the template for cutting out the sunroof hole in the non sunroof Headliner but the way the headliner is molded is different. Before I cut it and try put it in the car, it would be nice to know if anyone has done the same thing and did it work or am I just wasting my time. It looks like it will be ok but it may have some issues as to how it fits on the right and the left of the sunroof.

It might not fit the same at all. The roof to headliner thickness if diff between sun roof and non sun roof cars. You might find the radius not fitting correctly. I maybe wrong its just a thought.

It wont fit. The sunroof cars have a different headliner board - not just a hole in the non-moonroof one.

You may be able to repair or recover your original headliner, once you get it out. You will also be able to tell why the other one will not fit.

What he said... it will not work.
The moonroof cars have a shallower headliner.
The non roof cars are deeper.
It can be recovered thou.

This.

If you can get it out, drop it off to an auto upholstery shop and they can probably do it for $100-150. Got mine done in my blue 94 for 100. Turned out very nice. :)

I can verify that Gen I and II are different.
I can also verify that solid and moon roof care are different.
I bought some black material locally when I did mine a few months ago.
Cost less than $100 bux!
Just take your time and make sure there are no wrinkles.

Pull the seats and I think it'll come out of the back door at an angle. Some don't pull the seats out. I don't know how they do that. Or take out the windshield...

Doing it through the windshield is easiest. Just pop out the glass and pull the headliner straight out.

What really? Pulling the windshield doesnt sound easy at all and certainly couldn't drive the car like that..this is my dd now.maybe ill just fork up the cash and have the shop pull it and do it all.I would rather pull the rear window so I could retint it, has ALL kinds of headliner pieces in it!! Tint guy said he would redo it for free once I get the headliner fixed:(

Anyone else have any tips on Gen 2, non-sunroof headlinder R&R that don't involve removing the windsheild?

Can it be folded in half or would that ruin it? On some luxury cars this actually works.

I assume that all the A, B and C pillar moldings just pop off?

At the local pick a part they have a 78 K mile garage queen Taurus (headlights, paint in very nice shape) that has a very nice headliner. I did try to peel off the drivers door seal and it was a bit dry rotted though. Not sure what to epxect with the headliner.

You need to take the interior trim out (A,B,C pillars). Then remove the seats.
You can then R&R the head liner through either rear door when open.
Take your time, and try not to kink or fold the head liner.
