I want to replace my stock plugs & harness's with new, heavier duty pieces. I looked at some generic 3A Racing plugs at pep boys; they seem kinda cheap. Has anyone done this? I'd also like to know if the stock relay & headlight housings could take 100/80's. Thanks ahead.

My 91 ran on 100/120 for about 90 days then i put the car up for a brokin shift cable but i had no problem in my car ever thing is still ok. I would just put them in run them for a few days and then check the connectors to the bulbs.

I believe a lot of people on the V8 list have been getting them here: http://www.suvlights.com/

I plan on doing my own at some point soon -- it's not exactly rocket science, just a relay, some 12 ga. wire, a couple 9007 plugs, and some loom to hide it all.

If you use the 100w bulbs on the GEN 3 you will melt the connectors. With a relay set up available at many places (Summit, Jegs) you not only get an individual relay per beam pattern but heavier wire and heavy duty plugs. To use the OEM plugs with a home built relay system would be pointless as the restriction is at the plug and we already have relays OEM. Be sure to add an inline fuse to any relay kit.

There are also HID kits available, see this thread and if you are interested PM me. http://shoforum.com/showthread.php?t=46322

Yeah, I have no intention of using the stock plugs, I probably should have mentioned HD when referring to the 9007 plugs above. To DIY it will probably run about $15.

Well, I went back to pep boys to make a decision about the lighting. I noticed that one of the bulb packages had been opened [the same ones I had been looking to buy], so I glanced at the side of the plastic base and read.... '3A, 65W/55W'. I was like Eureka! :thumb: FYI, the bulbs I purchased are 9007 Nekoi Tokyo Racing Series [from 3A Racing, otherwise known as American Auto Accessories] Platinum Purple. There is a warning on the side of the package that says something along the lines of..."must use 3A Racing heavy duty high temp headlight sockets yada yada yada, OEM sockets won't handle the extra output levels ya ya ya". But I fgiure since they claim stock wattage, not too much harm can be done.

I ran a small test in which I put one NTPP bulbs in one headlight & left my current Eurolite Super Plasmas [stock wattage] in the other one. I ran the engine while the lights were on for about 5 mintues for the test [to see if the new bulbs were indeed safe by not overheating anything]. To my surprise, the PP's plug was still cool while the ESP's plug was warm enough to warrant concern. Now all I have to do is wait until night time to see if they throw enough light out. Thanks for the insight guys.

Well, these bulbs give off a purple light alright; the whole headlight looks purple and that's it. They offer NO LIGHT whatsoever infront of the vehicle. I'll just put my PIAA's back in and continue to dream that SOMEONE could come up with a purple headlight bulb in 9007 that puts out light close to stock and won't burn up a stock harness/plug.

All 9007 tungsten filament bulbs that are colored will put out less light than an uncolored ones.

If you want colored light you need to go HID.
