98 sho, headlights blink once very very quickly [in less time than I blink I think] when I let off the gas. Does this regardless of beginning speed. No problems with any other electrics. Battery checks out good. Is this normal or is my alternator or something else giving me a warning? THANK YOU

Do all the lights do this? Are they just dimming when you let up or going all the way out?

Does this only happen on low beam? The only place that both low beam headlights share a common circuit are from the headlight switch to the multifunction switch (MFS). After that the low beams split up into two different circuits. The high beams are one circuit from the MFS to the lights.

Do you have Daytime Running Lights (DRL)?

I had a problem with my headlights blinking while I was driving along. They were actually my DRL (Daytime running lights) that were the problem. The DRL module was just on the way out so I removed it. It was a bit of a pain to do on my GEN II but no more blinking or DRL's for that matter.

I moved to Canada a few months ago from NY and I need to go buy the DRL module so my SHO can pass the Canadian inspections. Where's the module/connector actually located on the car?
I went to the junk yard and the guy told me it is the same module for all the Fords, is this true? He tried to sell me one from a '90 Aerostar. They wanted $40 Canadian for it.
The one he showed me had an oval plug w/ 8 prongs.

The DRL module is in the fenderwell behind the left headlight. It is much easier to pull the fuse.

I just pulled the fuse on mine. The hazards also stopped working but I never bothered to check if they use the same fuse or if the problem was coincidental.

You need DRL to pass a safety inspection? And what inspections are you talking about? Is that because you imported the car?

I had to change my DRL module since it was causing some weird headlight problems. It's a pain in the ass to get to but it's not all that hard (at least on a Gen III). It's almost directly underneath the battery but you have to go from underneath. That means removing the splash shield underneath and the left side fender well splash guard.

Yes, I am importing the car and according to the RIV site . I wonder if I can get away with just turning the Auto Lamp on during the inspection. squint

Autolamp only turns on the headlights if it's dark out, so I doubt that is a viable solution. As far as DRL modules being universal to Fords, that would be correct.

The Gen 2 and Gen 3 DRL modules have the same plug but different circuits. I don't believe they are interchangeable.
