Hey-
I have searched, and havent seen much results.
I want to upgrade my Headlamps. I saw the topics about restoring my lamps- But Taurus Lamps are barely bright to begin with.
I use to drive a 2000 Camaro- THose lights were KILLER- no need EVER for High beams.

Anyways- I want to know if anyone had some upgrades to their lamps.. that didnt cost 500$ (i saw the one topic about someone selling custom lamps.)

Projectors would be cool i guess- but some of the HOWTO-'s sound very, involved..and .. kinda ghetto. Im sure there are ways to custom mod lamps.. but simplicity is key. I was considering upgrade to Mustang Lamps. They use the same bulbs-

So- i was seeing if anyone had insight about upgrades.
I also saw the Maxima upgrade... if you call that an upgrade.
If anyone knows of great Projectors system, that fits nicely... i guess that would do.

Currently for some reason, my Driver side blows like once a week or so. Its getting expensive. and i can barely see out of them.
So, any help would be great guys..
Thanks.

as for your drivers side blowing once a week, either your touching the buld (Creating hot spots on the buld) or you have a hole in your light. As for your choices with upgrading you can go with the 3 piece mustang lamps or just get new sable lights off rockauto or ebay and throw some decent bulbs in there. hope it helps

Same here, switched out my old yellowed ones for some new sable lights from rockauto. 75 bucks for both is pretty good imo. After switching out to the new ones I'm fine.

swap out the old lights for new ones, and get an upgraded headlight harness. I have a link to one on my other computer, send me a pm tomorrow to remind me and ill send it. It costs about 60 buck IIRC.

I like the idea of the 3 peice Mustang fixture.
Does that fit in the houseing? (if im thinking of the right part) The ********* thing, that connects the Lamps.
SO i can just buy OEM Mustang Set and install them.. kinda easily?
Or Buy 3rd party Mustang, projectors??? and maybe upgrade the harness?

I wish i had time and money to really mess with this.

Thanks guys for the idea with the sable fixture. I just dont think the OEM housing reflect enough light. I have had two SHO's in my time, and it is in my experience with Taurus's .. they have crappy lighting.
I was seriously going to connect my Camaro ones to the car, but i saw that its ALOT more work to get them installed.

as stated before, the problem with these cars is the ****** harness for the headlights.

What year is your SHO? The Gen IIs (92-95) can use the sable lights of the same year, and the Gen Is (89-91) can use fox body stang lights with some slight modification (from what I've seen)... can Gen IIs use newer stang lights? Upgrading the harness and having clear lenses will probably do wonders though, just like SHOtime2511 said....

The Fox lights are no improvement, they're still 9004-bulb lights. The 9004 bulb is junk, all you can do is find a decent +30 bulb.

Clear housings and a harness with relays and fatter wire will help more than you'd expect.

Wet sanding existing housings is pretty cheap, buff them out and they are clear. I did the SUV harness, some new sylvainia ultras and they were bright. A little electrical tape for the lamp out light in the dash. Cheap vision.

Hey, thanks guys for the input.
I am currently running 9007 bulbs. (stock wiring) - And, in response to my Driver side blowing, i didn't touch the bulb.
I have a GenII -

I am sorry that it seems soo redundant. While searching the forum, there were only like 1 or 2 threads that were kinda recent (within 1 year), and they didn't say much of anything. Alot of the feed back was from 2005- which all pointed to upgrading the harness and bulbs.
Another huge issue im running into recently- is that alot of people are nice enough to put photo's of their installs, and picture of what to do. But once again, these Threads are 3 years old. The links are no longer valid.

I am curious about the upgrades between HID, Projectors, and such. I am still deciding on what i might do.
I thought about the mustang setup, because they use the same bulbs. So i wouldn't have to do THAT much screwing around with the system to make it better. Also, i had tried once to clean my lenses for my car. Didnt work out well, When i looked into the Lens.. the reflectors were VERY dingy. - And that was a couple years ago, i can only imagine now.

it appears the replacement lamps are like 160$ each! - i found projector lamps for a mustang 04' at $70 for a pair. Hence why i am curious about it.

I am a bit worried about the Low/high beam issue.
~~i live in NY, i travel between LI, and Upstate. Anyone from this tri-state region knows that there is a cult of Deer out there. A hunters nitemare- (kicking a dead horse?) With my current setup, im screwed. 8 years ago when i had my FIRST SHO- .. same issue, couldnt see crap.
So i completely understand how most of these upgrades would be better- but.. the best option is worth my time. Of course- im not going to go buy 1G$ lights, but.. if HID is better, so be it. If Projectors are better- yet take 3-8 hours to fabricate.. great. I can waste 8 hours.

We need some experience on this one. Anyone like to add in with some Fabrication experience? I would hope/think it could be a simple bracket change or mod. Something not too bad being it is a ford.

The harness plugs into one of the headlight sockets, the other is left unplugged. You then attach the harness to your headlight bulbs and the other side to your battery.

Because one of the factory sockets is left unplugged, you'll have the "light out" lit up when you run the headlights, but it goes off with the high beams. The easiest solution is to disconnect the light out module inside of the glove box.
