I never owned a gen 4 but I found a cheap one with a bad head. How much of a pita is it to swap one out?

It's not a PIA to swap out the heads. It was most likely a cam failure.
The block might still be good. You will not find out till you have the engine pulled out and taken apart.
You might have gotten lucky and just need to replace a or both heads. Depends on the severity of the cam failure.

Good luck.

V8 is an interference engine. So piston smacks the valves with a cam failure. How bad is unknown until it is opened up. Personally, unless cheap means a couple hundred bucks, I would pass. Plenty of welded V8s around for cheap money and non welded, non spun for cheaper money.
