I recently found I had a flat tire after about a mile driving on it. If that wasn't bad enough, I jacked it up and took the doughnut out of the back only to find it was sitting in about 5 inches of water in my trunk under the floor carpet where it sits. Does anyone have any Idea how to fix this problem. Nothing on top of the carpet was wet but in the spare tire well under the floor was at least 5 inches. Help.
Oh ya it turned out to be even more terrible when the doughnut didn't fit over the caliper of the 96' brake upgrade. Another fun tabbilis day with my 94 sho. Dam thing is going to nickle and dime me to death.

Trunk seal is leaking more than likley, but I've had a better story about a spare tire - - Customer calls me. He has a flat, puts the spare on but the car wont move.

*Note to all, a Gen 2 donut will not clear 96+ brakes....*

you should never put the donut on a drive wheel anyway, rotate one of the back wheels up and put the donut on the back.

Yeah, but that's not exactly easy to do on the side of the highway with just a scissor jack.

My solution for the water problem was to pop out the plugs in the spare tire well and in the lil cubbies on either side of the trunk. Helluva lot cheaper than finding good seals.

ive done it, twice, once on my car, once on a friends. jack up the back wheel, put the donut on. then jack up the flat, put the fullsize wheel on.

or you get a 16" spare from a mark 8 or t bird (did they have 16" spares?) maybe that will fit, well least the mark 8 it clears my 11.6" rear kit Id assume id clear the front too. But as stated it isnt supposed to go on the front of the car only rear. Donuts are made to roll only they offer very little traction and can be dangerous on the front of the car.

ok back on topic: yes I have that problem on my atx. I put in a new seal (ok new to me it was used but in MUCH better shape then mine was, and it still leaks. My spare tire and jack were rusted so bad i threw them out. Im going to go in the trunk and have someone hose the car down and see i i can find the leak. These cars had problems with leaky trunks you are not the first. Buying a BRAND NEW seal would probably fix it but there not cheap something like 75 bucks, which is why i ended up with a good used one that cost me a dollar at my local yard.

Jeez I wish I owned a trunk seal company with as much money as you guys throw away on them, thinking that'll cure your leak.

Try your taillights. Water isn't going to magically go up and over a trunk seal on a parked car, maybe while the car is in motion, but sure as **** will leak down behind a taillight with a bad seal - in motion or not.

That's the problem I'm facing with my jalopy. In my case the original owner pulled the taillights and rtv'd behind them which is keeping me from trying to pull em now.

Water coming in around the taillights is a real problem in 1st gens but not so much in 2nd gens. The rear panel does not have the big holes in it like the 1st gens do so it's much harder for water to enter there.

jelloslugs right,, shock.. :thumb: my poor spare was floating in the 91 when i started the rebuild, found a decent trunk seal at the pick and pull for a whoopin' 5 bucks and no more leaking. also if your drivers door seems to slam when you close it check the seal. i changed the one on both the 91 and 93 and they sounds like new cars now.

a spare from a late model T-bird is known to fit over the 96 upgrade. I believe it's a 17" wheel. As for the leaking, I just drilled a small hole at the bottom of the tire well to let the water leak out in my wife's 95 ATX. A new seal is a must. Pretty much all old ones leak, no matter the mileage of the donor car. It flattens with age. New ones are cheap...

Where can you find a new seal? I have found weather stripping that needs to be cut to fit but not an exact seal.

Has anyone thought of the sunroof drains? A problem here could cause all kinds of H2O problems to include under rear seat, trunk, spare, etc.
