Well we had some wicked weather last monday and it flooded here in Vegas. I drove her thru a flooded intersection with about a foot or better of scummy water. Anyway the Balancer failed by working itself backwards luckly into the timing belt cover, had it come forward,,,,,
(do the math)

Guess I found the time to change that pesky CPS while im in there along with the timing belt. she had the full 60k done on her but what else should I be changing she has almost 90k on it now.

PS: it's been 24 days since my last break down, I thought I was on a roll!

How in the world did it fail by working itself backwards onto the timing cover? Are you sure the timing cover didn't come forward? I'm trying to think how the pulley would move back since the timing gear is there...along with the oil pump....

The only other things to change in there are: timing belt, water pump, front main, and camshaft seals.

The timing belt, heck even if it only has 30k on it..replace it, cheap and makes a difference. Water pump, if it is leaking yes...if not your decision ( my original made it to ~152k before it started leaking). If it wasn't replaced at 60k, then I'd be more inclined if it was and isn't leaking I'd leave it alone. The front main, might as well it is easy cheap..and can be pesky if it starts leaking. The cam seals, check them and if they arn't leaking they will start soon enough...that is a toss up if you want to go through that. Some say they are easy, others say otherwise...

Edit: Sorry just reread your post and realized you changed your timing belt...

Well, for those of you that we're at the convention, you know my story about the balencer! If you didn't, I forgot to torque the crank bolt! :bonk: The balencer worked itself loose, alowing the timing belt and retaining washer to walk forward. I had to replace all 3 timing covers, because the timing belt had walked forward almost 1/2 an inch. C what happens when you make a mistake 72hrs before you are driving across the country from PA to CA!!! Always triple check your work!

Your eyes are a great tool, use them. :dribble:

That didn't result in crank cancer? Your woodruff key, the keyway, timing gear, and pulley were all ok!?

A balancer failure is when the outer and inner rim loses the bonding from the rubber shock absorber pressed between the two. I heard a squeek last week but I thought it was the AC cause I just installed a new clutch. I begged to differ. It was wierd cause the serpentene belt freyed on a portion of it but didnt break and after replacing it the noise returned and after inspection I noticed the belt had partally worked forward a tooth on the crank pully. I had a balancer fail on my jeep last winter up in Ceder City, utah spent 2 days repairing that in the snow in 6 degre weather. Good thing they had an Autozone with a replacment balancer and a tool ( yeah dude ,They had the part, I still cant beleive it ). there was a good Morman fellow that came and helped after watching my fustration on the second day. THX Billy if your out there.

Oh, thats right - forgot about the rubber portion of the pulley. Well, with these pulleys discontinued we are all counting down on a limited number left....

You can get them from Dorman for around $140 but no eta on when you will get it, or Poineer for $126 and takes about 4-6 days or 2 days at $166 from the zone or get it overnight shipping from Frod for $349 and at Manny, Moe & Jack for $299 and a 10 day wait. Again I found myself with a math problem.
