i have a harmonic on my motor now , i was trying to hold it from spinning and cracked a small piece off the lip , was wondering if this will affect the way it runs?? am i able to use one off another motor i have ??? i notice the current one has 2 holes in the front and the other one i have has 4 ..... are those to balance the actual harmonic??? or to balance the hole asemble along with the crank , rods and pistons? can i inter change a balancer off another motor?

You should be find. Mine has some chips and such in it from popping them off.

the 2 holes are for a puller to help you remove them if they get stuck.

You can get another for the motor just make sure its an SHO MTX one. Some are for sale on the forum right now for cheap.

They are interchangable. If you are worried about the one you have then use the one off the other motor. The holes that you are referring to i believe are to balance each individual one. One pulley might have one or two and another might have 3 or 4 like you've noted. Just make sure that the one you replace it with is for the same belt drive as "intindatr" already noted. If you cracked it while trying to torque it down then you might want to look up some of the ways used to torque them before you try the other one.

The device on our SHO engines is actually a dampner rather than a balancer. As long as the chipped part is a small portion of the belt guide, you should be fine on balance. There are six ribs keeping the belt on the dampner.

To reinstall the dampner in the future, get a quality strap wrench. That definitely saves the dampner lip and allows full torque of the bolt.

The SHO engine is internally balanced.

thanks guys!!! the prob is my impact gun wont even back the bolt off.... i think the last person to put it on this motor either used lock tight or an impact gun with way more psi then me . an d i was trying to crack the bolt ... i have the puller and have had no problem removing my parts motor one and my current motor in car now using that tool and my impact gun!

i was thinking some heat on the bolt head then try the gun again

i had vise grips on it to try and crack with a long johnson bar and thats when i crack it off . was going to just jb weld the piece on and sand it and then paint the dampner/balancer and make it look nice :)

Let the engine do the work, no need for an impact gun to break the bolt loose. There are several threads on the subject. What you want to do is bump start the motor and break the bolt loose.

This link sums it up - SHO Phoenix Project
