ok. as of late, sometimes when i start my car, it is difficult to get my tranny in gear. basically, the button on the shifter will not push in (as if you werent pressing the brake) unless you press the brake almost to the floor. until now, just a brush of the bake pedal would allow me to slip into R and be on my way. a second symptom is that when attempting to **** the cruise by using the brake, you have to push it far enough so that it actually applies the brakes to a larger degree then what i'm used to.
what could be causing this?
Thanks in advance.

im not an ATX guy, but it sounds to me that whatever senser that the brake pedal triggers to

a. allow you to shift from park to drive, and vise-versa

b. dissengage the cruise control

is on it's 'last leg'.

Just a shot...

it would be a physical switch/sensor.

and located under the dash, on the brake pedal assembly itself thumb

my '89 has one to dissengage the cruise control. Hopefully yours is similar.

EDIT:

Just ran outside and took a pic for you.

I beleive it is the switch with the red arrow pointing to it. I do know that the switch the blue arrow points to is the brake lamp switch. thumb

Had same symptoms here once. The plug on the brake pedal switch overheated and melted on my ATX (why shrug ??). I trimmed the wires back, redid the terminals and installed a new switch. Works like a charm now.

It shouldnt be to much of a project. My old ATX had the problem. After i got a brake job done apperently the mechanic knocked the switch loose. a Strip of electircal tape and 5 min later and shes as good as new.
