hard starting plus erratic tach at startup.

car is hard to start, if i crank it maybe 3 seconds, then let off, then crank it again it'll start and run fine.

but when it starts, the tach will be normal, go up to about 1500 then all of a sudden it loses signal and kicks back down to maybe 500, then goes back up to 1000. just one time, every time. this is maybe the first 2 seconds after startup. all the while the engine is perfectly normal.

there is a little oil in the plugs, 118k miles, and i don't think it's ever has a 60k done, but plugs and wires were changed. car runs fine. its been doin this ever since i got it. codes i've gotten are 452, 177,176, and the fuel pump one. i've changed out the vss since the 452 was making it not shift right, cruise control not working so that fixed it.

i dunno, what do you guys think it is? fuel pump? cam sensor? dis causing hard starting?

i had the same problem , and i put lucas fuel injecter cleaner and after a few fill ups with the cleaner .its starts a lot better.

pull your codes again to see if anything new popped up. i would say cam sensor, but your tach is not dropping right to zero. mine was not reading at all just before my new cam sensor went in.

but i would really think that it is the coil malfunctioning due to just losing like 1/3 of the rpms. but you would feel a misfire in the engine for sure if the coil was acting up.
