Today I was out about 15 miles from home and when I decided to come home it was about 3:30am, the windows were completely frozen and it was cold as crap outside.

So I turn on my car, let it sit for awhile while I defrost it and scrape the windows etc. all seems well.

I get on the freeway and my temp gauge starts rising. About 5 miles down the road it's near the top of the gauge, not on the H but in the section of normal it's almost to the line before the H. I have my bright lights on and then all the sudden the icon went off, when I get off the interstate the red oil light starts flickering yet the yellow oil light does not come on.

I park my car and turn it off and it sounds like something with a chunk of ice stuck to it is spinning down.

I come outside like 5 minutes later and my car is steaming / smoking like crazy and making a hissing noise and a cracking sound like ice is breaking.

So i know the coolant in my lines was probably frozen ( figured that much out )....is my SHO gonna die? =\

What am I to expect when I turn it on tomrrow? What signs to I look for? Is there anything I can do? Please someone tell me It'll be okay. wahhhhhhh:frown: :frown: :frown: :frown:

Where the **** do you live where antifreeze freezes? Isn't like, the whole point of antifreeze to not freeze? And yet, it sure does sound like your antifreeze did just that.

It's a good thing you turned your car off when you saw the low oil pressure light come on. How many seconds elapsed between when it came on and when you turned it off will tell how bad your engine is jacked up.

Even when these engines overheat, they tend not to break too badly. If the car is still driveable and you didn't blow a head gasket (which is possible), the first thing I would do is change the oil, since you more than likely fried it. Unless you're running Amsoil, that could probably handle it. Anyway, I would also check the water pump, since it wasn't designed to circulate chunks of ice :).

Also, change your sucky antifreeze. Part of it was frozen, and part of it was boiled to ****. That can't be good for it.

I can tell you whatever you want to hear, but the reality of it is, only time will tell... be sure to check for smoke (not steam) out the exhaust, an indication of a blown head gasket. Pray you didn't warp your heads. Good luck! :thumb:

Antifreeze is not supposed to freeze, also how cold is it where you are at(50 degrees in PA)? All you can do now is hope that nothing got destroyed as it is possible to the crack the block. Just start by thawing out the car, changing the fluids and praying to the car gods:hail:

A 50/50 mixture is good for about -45 Celcius (i donno the conversion) So your mix might have been diluted with too much water maybe?

Definately, probably mostly, I saw it was low coolant one day and I added a 50/50 mix to top it off, not sure what the rest of it was, seeing as it froze it was probably all water or old antifreeze =\

Car turned on today, didnt sound like it was having any issues, no smoke out the exhaust, sounded like it normally does. I turned it back off though, where can i take it to flush the fluid out ? Or is it hard? From what I hear theres 3 places to drain it from.

Also I did check my oil and it was pretty dark, a lot darker than usual. And somewhat low, I guess I burnt off a lot of oil last night.

I'd definitly flush the coolant, change the t-stat, and oil. I myself use a 70/30 mix, but thats me. 50/50 should be fine. I almost want to believe that your t-stat stuck or you had an air pocket in the system. So make sure you run it until the t-stat opens and top it off from there.

Okay, took it out for a drive today and it never heated up once, the temp gauge stayed just over the halfway mark for the duration, drove about 8 miles somewhere, parked it, then drove it back home about 15 minutes later, no heat at all, the windows wouldn't even defrost, just blowing air. I had to scrape the windows from the outside AND inside

Drove it for quite awhile, I cant get any heat now it seems, and theres quite a bit of moisture on the inside because the windows keep getting frozen thick and i have to scrape the inside.

Also after being driven for awhile it seems my dangerous oil light starts to flicker as i slow down to a stop, then when i start driving again it goes away. Any clue on what that is?

UGH, this is really irritating now

Was on my way to get my coolant flushed and changed with the oil as well + new thermostat and my car died when I went over 30mph, and wouldn't start back up, after getting jumped it came back on.

Bad alternator or battery wont hold a charge?

I'm not losing coolant. Though i'll get it drained tomorrow.

The big issue currently is the red oil light that flickers when my car comes to a stop, then goes away when I push on the gas, it was never solid red, but it will flicker when I stop or slow down below 5mph.

Earlier today my car wouldn't start, when you turn on just the accessories it would make a funny noise like it died, and the check engine + oil lights would be lit, then when you turn it on the car turned on but unless I rev it for a minute or so it would die when I let it idle. Then on the way home the oil light kept doing the same thing even though I topped it off like a quart more than it probably needed.

So my question is this, could "fried oil" cause these issues with the red oil light when i slow down to a stop? Even though it's more than full. Tomorrow I'm getting my oil changed and a new oil filter, how soon does the coolant / thermostat need to be replaced though? Can it wait a few days? Are there any issues a broken thermostat can cause other than no heat in the cabin?

Crap, i was reading around the forum here and a lot of flickering oil lights lead to bad rod bearings due to low oil pressure, think theres a chance that the oil light flickering could be fixed by getting my oil and filter changed? Would that help the oil pressure if my oil got cooked?
