Are the SHO half shafts the same as the 6bangers ? I lost the Right inbord dust seal today (boy does that make a mess!) and was just wondering about replacements.

Thanks
Kim

Nope. They're unique. Be careful. I ended up getting the wrong shaft from Advance Auto Parts. It might be easier to remove it and half it rebuilt. Check your yellow pages for rebuilders.

I don't see why there would be a difference between the SLO's and SHO's...

We know the hub / bearing assembly is the same so we know the outer joint has the same splines and all. We know the tranny is the same so the tranny splining would be common. And the tranny mount's are common between SHO's and SLO's so axle length should be the same as well.

Ian you probably got a wrong axle for some other reason, everything I know strongly suggests that they are the same, but a parts lookup would be the fastest way to confirm anything.

Has to do with the position of the tranny on the subframe, requiring different lengths.

I thought the tranny mount was the same and positioned the same on the SF. What is different?

From furd DVD

SLO- Inboard CV joint is a "plunge"-type joint which provides for axial movement to affect shaft length changes.

SHO only-The inboard CV joint is a tri-plan design and is only serviced as an assembly with the interconnecting shaft.

Raxels has new CV joints, not new half shafts I found out. ~$130 each.

But the rebuilt ones will install new ball bearings in the old CV joint race after smoothing the race out by hand. A definite hit and miss procedure.
