After reading Tony's account (Had a ********* tonight!) of killing the supercharged Saleen Mustang and the Camaro SS (very impressive), I may have still been a little inspired tonight as I was at a light two lanes away from a last generation Z28. I had heard its loud exhaust as we both approached the light and was aware that it had an automatic transmission. A real driver's car.

The light turned green and we accelerated more quickly than the car in the center lane. At about 20-25 mph as we reached the other side of the intersection I heard his exhaust get very serious. I was still in 1st gear so I thought it would be interesting to see how my old girl would match up against the much larger engined "sports car."

As I caught second gear at about 7,300 rpm, I realized that I had not only kept up with the Z28, but had actually gained ground. Nearing redline in second pushed me a good car length in front. I had found out what I needed to see and quickly shut back down to the 40 mph speed limit.

He had passed me, but slowed down for me to roll up next to him as we came up to the next red light together. By that time he was hanging out the window laughing and asking me what kind of car I had. I told him it was a 270,000 mile family car. Just a Taurus. He laughed even louder and said, "Naw, what's in there?" I said it's a SHO - super high output. A three liter Yamaha. Still with 270,000 miles on it. He was still laughing as he took a right turn as disappeared into the night, his loud exhaust tucked between his legs.

Even in need of a new clutch (throwout bearing) with parts on order as of today, she's still got it. I think I'm still smiling.

Nothing like getting beat down by a 12 yr old nearly 300k mile family sedan! Nice job Scott. Maybe I will meet up with some rivalry when I am down this weekend. Have not had anyone throw a rev on me except a CRX:D

That story made me smile from ear to ear!! The SHO is soo undervalued it's unreal. I'm glad that there's a group of people like us all here trying to keep these amazingly quick beasts running. Keep it up Scott thumbs_u

He wasn't a ****. He was as cool as he could be for just having been humbled by a V6 family car. I don't think he could believe it actually happened.

When you say last generation, is that the LT1? I noticed someone said LS1 which is the current body styles which came in affect as of 98'. Was it a 98 - up or before that style?

The last generation that was made before the Camaro faded into extinction.
