Hi all, this is my first post on Shoforum.

I'm about to swap out the coils and plugs on my '98 SHO and am trying to figure out what is the longevity on the GT500 coils that a few people tried out? The last post in the original thread was a couple years ago, and I'm curious.

I can pick up a set of what looks like the same Accel/Rally coils off ebay for about $118 with shipping (I have a 10% off coupon). Then a set of boots for $8 off Rockauto.

Also I can pick up cheapo coils for the SHO off ebay for around $90; or $180 for Visteon coils (which I've heard good things about).

Any experiences, particularly on the GT500 coils, would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't trust them not being bolted down.

If you're going to use coils that aren't made for the V8 Sho...at least get some low mileage OEM coils. The Visteon coils are probably fine. The $90 coils I ran on mine, and as far as I know they're still working fine. A lot of people here have bought coils from ebay seller alanisdeals on ebay...

Visteon was a ford owned entity for awhile, producing oem parts. Visteon coils have shown good results on other ford cars as well.

Im running Accel version of the 4 valve 4.6/5.4 Modular motors coils. The rears have been in 2 cars running those for 2.5 yrs and about 12,000 on them, front ones were swapped out this spring. I did the rears first cause I wanted to test there first cause of the heat issues. I haven't had any issues with them. I did try the coils from Ebay, they didn't least 3,000 mile before I had to contantly swap out with old spares Motorcrafts I had, but others have had no issue. Its all what you want to do, plus I wanted to see if I could get them to work.

I agree with the comment above as per a concern about running coils that are not attached. There is a bold in system for them for a reason.

Personally I am using some Chinese made Alanis sourced coils off e-bay and have had zero problems with them. I think they have been in for between 2 and 3 years now, with most of that time the car still being my daily driver.

Everyone has good points, just take the info and make your own decision. Like I said I wanted to see if I could get them to work.

Yep lots of good info. I'm probably going to pick up the Visteon coils from alanisdeals. The GT coils do sound interesting, just not cost effective if I buy the Accel versions. But thanks all for the info.
