Well, I guess they say curiousity killed the cat. Well, it sure didn't do me any good. I switched out my car's 80mm MAF and Chip and put the stock 55 mm MAF in. It ran about the same (I think I might have one of those weird X2J's). Then I put the MAF and Chip back in. Now it will not hold idle speed and dies. It surges and dies. It will run for a while, but then surge up, drop down, and die. What is wrong with it??? Help!!!

I can still put the stock stuff in and have it run fine, so whats the deal?

This might be dumb, but did you reset the idle after changing each time? You didn't mention it so I wanted to be certain.

That's my question as well. Did you disconnect/drain all the power going to the computer? Reset with appropriate accessory loads? After these are ruled out then move on to bad MAF and after that MAYBE bad chip/ chip acceptance. The chip and its programming is usually not the problem.

Yes, I unplugged the lead to the computer's keep alive memory and disconnected the battery. For 2 hours. To no avail. I know the MAF should be good since I was using it earlir today. The car ran perfectly before I changed the MAF's. I am gonna check a couple other things, but so far I have no idea what is wrong!

Try it once more to be sure. When it's unplugged put a load on the system (turn on lights) to be sure of discharge. Put the chip back in before reconnecting. If it ran ok before you took them out and ran poorly after reinstall, something changed in between.
