I pulled my crossover tube to replace my CID and I noticed (besides an intake that needs to be clean inside) that their was some "grit" in it. I don't know what else to say but their is a little of it, enough for me to get on my fingers when I wiped it. Is this a serious issue, or can I just kinda not worry about it. I plan on totally cleaning my intake during summer, but don't have time till then. Thanx,
Doug

Not to worry. That grit you saw was just the usual intake gunky build up. If you were to yank the manifold, you would see the same stuff in the runners, and for the head ports.

I did yank the intake during my 60k a couple months ago, but I don't remember this stuff. It is like a sand type of material that is on the bottom of the pleniums. I don't remember it being there. It is seperate fromt the intake "gunk".

is it mixed in with the gunk? I had the same stuff on my 89, it almost feels like sand, right? I think it is from the PCV system, and I think the gunk turns to that stuff if you have never cleaned it. My 90 was just gunky, but no grit. Just clean it and dont worry about it. See my post under "Gunk in intake runners" for cleaning tips.

Theres probably also some dirt that got by the air filter -- either due to it being so fine as to go through the filter, or due to a dirty filter.

Yea I guess, after 8 yrs and 137k it can accumulate some dirt/grit. Well, this summer the whole intake is coming apart and is gonna look brand new. Thanx for calming my worries
