The grinding started about 4k miles ago, but I have been putting it off by engaging 3rd, then selecting 1st. What I don't understand is how my 1st gear blocking ring took a crap on me so quick! Is this common? The only thing I did different was engage first gear around 15mph a couple of times since the rebuild. The 1/2 synchro is spankin' new.
Today, I replaced the clutch, thinking that was the cause of my grinding and delayed shifts, in which it takes the gear a second to come to a stop. I can actually hear them as the make a loud whining noise until they come to a stop. So now I have a near new clutch kit sitting here and the grinding still occuring.
If I knew how to do that url crap stuff, I'd post a pic of my synchro assembly. My 1st gear blocking ring is sitting FLUSH with 1st gear. It has no room to push down and stop the gear, like all the others.
BTW, I have tried all kinds of fluids, including synchromesh, and nothing helped the problem.
Any suggestions, or corrections? I might be thinking wrong, but I do not recall the rings to sit flush on the gear. If this is so, what is my case. I still have delayed shifts, ever since the first day of the rebuild, and 1st gear grinding. My clutch is fully releasing. If I push the pedal down and wait 5 seconds, it will slip in 1st with out pre-selecting another gear.
Did I buy some old blocking rings(1&2) from GSC that possibly fell apart?
The 3&4 rings from the local dealer had a newer package and some atmosphere type sticker and they seem to engage quicker and not as rough.
