Grind noise is back

Started 93 sho up, grinding noise, and up and down revs, put in drive, engine died. started up again and no prob. haven't had grinding for 1 week now. What up?

I had a starter cause a noise like that to me once. Right after the new one went in it failed to disengage completly and made a slight grinding noise that I could hear at cruising speed. I ended up getting another starter. It never caused my engine to stall though. It could also be a water pump, but I would think that it would be constant. I wonder what the possibility of loose corroded metal from the radiator getting into the water pump housing (far out possibility probably).
